Solid Rock Under My Feet

Psalms for today: 13, 43, 73, 103, 133

From Psalm 43...

3 Send out your light and your truth;
let them lead me;
let them bring me to your holy hill
and to your dwelling!
4 Then I will go to the altar of God,
to God my exceeding joy,
and I will praise you with the lyre,
O God, my God.

5 Why are you cast down, O my soul,
and why are you in turmoil within me?
Hope in God; for I shall again praise him,
my salvation and my God.

It's almost as though this is really a continuation of Psalm 42. If you read them together, the kind of flow really well. And they both have the same "refrain." Verse 5 of 43 is found twice in 42.

Day 83

Psalm 62

I'm going to quote the portion in the reading today.

God, the one and only--
I'll wait as long as he says.
Everything I need comes from him,
so why not?
He's solid rock under my feet,
breathing room for my soul,
And impregnable castle:
I'm set for life.

How is God like a rock?

I remember when I would walk around on a nearby "mountain" when I was a young boy. I called it a mountain. It was probably a small hill, but you know...
Anyway, it had hundreds of very, very large rocks on it. When I say "large," I'm saying, like, bigger than a car. Some may have been the size of a small bedroom.

How is God like one of those? For one, he's bigger than me. I could walk around on those rocks, and I never felt worried that they would shift and fall out from under me, either. I remember climbing around and walking around on those things (my mother would probably have had a heart attack had she seen me), right up to a precipitous edge, and never afraid, not one bit. The rock was solid. The rock was stable. As far as I was concerned, it was immovable. This is how God is. He is aolid, stable, and he really is immovable. God is THE immovable object. Ironically, he is also THE unstoppable force. Heh.

Father, I thank you that you are my Rock. I give you praise because you are even more solid and stable than the rocks I remember climbing on as a child. You will not move, nor will you fall out from under me. I am safe! Yes!! I AM SAFE!!

What joy that last phrase brings to my heart! With God, no matter what happens, I am safe!

Remember that during your day. If you are in God, ultimately, you are safe.

Grace and peace.
