FROG: Fully Rely On God
2008-01-14

Psalms for today: 14, 44, 74, 104, 134

The fool says in his heart, "There is no God."
They are corrupt, they do abominable deeds,
there is none who does good.

The LORD looks down from heaven
on the children of man,
to see if there are any who understand,
who seek after God.

They have all turned aside; together
they have become corrupt;
there is none who does good,
not

even

one.

This is why I don't believe in "seeker churches." There are no "seekers." Only people who are drawn by God come to Christ. This is a hard position and difficult for some to handle, but that is what I believe.

Day 53

read

2 Chronicles 16:7-9

Asa, a relatively good king in Judah, went to a human ally for help instead of God. For that reason, he lost a very important victory. This passage is the rebuke that he received from Hanani, the seer.

think

Which phrase or idea sticks out with you?
That not relying on God results in "one round of war after another." When we don't rely on God for our support, we put ourselves into situations that create new battles for us.

Why does that idea stick with you?
Because I know it to be true from personal experience.

The theme of this passage could be summed up in the acronym FROG, standing for Fully Rely on God. Consider your life--for what large or small issues might you FROG that you have not thought of before? (Don't use this passage to beat yourself up; that's not profitable. Use it instead as a springboard to ask God for guidance.)
I think on the issue of standing up and resisting temptation. That is where I need to rely more on God's strength and less on my own, which fails miserably.
Note: I really like the part that I highlighted in bold up there. It's never profitable for us to beat ourselves up over past failures. All it does is beat us down, which is exactly what our enemy wants. Which reminds me of a very old Newsboys song, Dear Shame, that speaks of Satan diggin around in our trash, finding old stuff and serving it up to us on a tray. Great analogy, that.

pray

Give thanks to God that we can fully rely on him. He is constantly alert to find people who are totally committed to him. He desires to keep us out of trouble. We should daily take time to explore that gratitude and admiration.

live

Take some deep breaths and ponder what it would feel like in your gut to rely on God all the time, every day. Taste the sweetness of reliance so it's not a chore but the absolute best way to live.

Taste the sweetness.

O, taste and see that the LORD is good!

Grace and peace, y'all!
